The City of Toronto is a well known place being the capital of Ontario. It is also the largest of all the cities found in Canada. Located along the Southern area of Lake Ontario, this is a very common location for tourists to enjoy. The city is dated back to the late 18th Century, but it modern in style and design. The history of this area is very rich as it was purchased from the monarch of Britain.
In the history books, the city of Toronto was in turmoil in 1834 but it was called York at the time. There were a few battles that took place in this location, and then the name was changed. The location was being settled but then there were set backs due to the occurrence of two fires. One of them took place in 1849 and then the second one in 1904. The borders that surround the City of Toronto continue to be expanded though, and the last time that occurred was documented in 1998.
The city of Ontario ranks #5 in terms of the highest populations of cities found in North America. There are more than 2 ½ million people that reside here. The metropolitan area though has about 5 million residents in it. This location is considered to be the heart of Greater Toronto area, often referred to as GTA. This is also part of the Golden Horseshoe area where over 8 million people reside. All in all, this entire area is about ¼ of the population of Canada.
Tourists come from all over the world to see the City of Toronto. Many of them love what they see so much, they decide to relocate to the area. It is believed that just under half of the residents of this area moved there rather than being born there. The diversity is very large in this area, and it is a huge melting pot of cultures.
There is plenty of business that takes place in the City of Toronto. The Toronto Stock Exchange is found here as are the corporate headquarters for the five largest banks in Canada. The economic sector here includes finance, telecommunications, transportation, film, and art. Forbes has listed the city of Toronto as the #10 most powerful city in the world due to the economy here and the growth.
There is plenty to see and do around the city of Toronto including plenty of concerts and live shows. There are parks, areas to go hiking, and plenty of recreational events around the water. The cost of living is affordable in many areas that are part of the hub from the City of Toronto. It is common for people to live in those areas and then to commute to the city for work.
Public transportation is offered in this region to help keep the flow of people under control. The crime rate is very low and overall people seem to be very happy living and visiting the City of Toronto.
